The nurses were lovely, considerate and caring. One or two of the junior doctor's need to be a little more compassionate when taking blood and one older, male catering assistant was extremely unprofessional (a complaint was made). However, nursing staff were very professional by contrast.

Review of Acute Medical Unit (AMU) (St Helier)

The Junior Sister, Lynne Stirling, seemed to be carrying out the duties of 2 people in a most efficient and effective manner. Very helpful and deserves recommendation. The Consultant was also very efficient and understanding in both times he attended me. In my earlier visit, earlier that day the Sister on A&E , Jan, was very helpful by way of keeping us up to date with progress from CT (or lack of it!) and this helped us manage our day.

Review of B5 Ward Surgical Short Stay & Ambulatory Care

The positive: The staff in general were very kind and caring. In particular, nurse Nana was a little treasure. She stayed after her shift ended to re-do my cannula, which meant a great deal to me. This shows true dedication. Although I had little appetite, the food wasn't bad at all. I particularly liked the soups which were very tasty. Although a stay in hospital is never pleasant I think the staff did all they could to make the experience as bearable as possible. The not so positive: I was lucky to have my own room. One of the windows didn't close properly and as a result there was a strong draught even when it was closed. This was during the very strong winds over Christmas. One of the walls was badly affected by damp. The hospital tea was not pleasant. I saw a succession of junior doctors and, until the penultimate day, saw the consultant only once for a couple of minutes when he put his head around the door. Despite the hospital leaflets, many doctors and staff didn't show their names and didn't say who they were.
